Mt Monadnock by Chris Reid Size: 10.5"X11.75" Framed Medium: Pastel on UArt Paper Mounted on Archival Board Tru-Vue Non Reflective Glass Chris Reid is an internationally respected New Hampshire artist known for her plein-air landscapes and still life paintings. Her work is noted for “its intense color and masterful use of light”. Art New England described Reid’s work as being “rich in color”, and her landscapes have been praised for their “powerful abstract elements”. Recent juror comments: M. Islen’s comments on Allegro: “Reid’s work shows such a profuse and complex use of ‘these lines’, that when combined with a mature use of color, value and temperature… the viewer is brought into the experience: both the experience of the wetland depicted, and the experience of the act of creating…a work of art”. L. Haywood’s comments on Winter Light, winner of the American Pastel Society Award: “Lyrically drawn landscape defined by lovely movement in the strokes of pastel. Tiny complements of orange marks are the perfect counterpoint to the blue and purple end of day palette”. Comment on Summer Breeze: “Talented use of lines to create trees, mountains, meadows and a sense of summer’s warm breezes.” Comment on Spectra: “This piece is all about energy—color, movement, the action of the pastel marks push and pull you into and around this painting.” Reid’s works frequently appear in juried and international shows. Her works have recently been featured throughout New England, New York, and Canada, including three consecutive recent International Association of Pastel Society exhibitions. She has been the recipient of numerous national and international awards, including the Connecticut Pastel Society’s Jack Richeson Award (2023), CPS Award (2022), the Pastel Society of New Hampshire’s Holbein Award (2022), the Pastel Society of America Award (2021), the Jack Richeson Award (2020), the Seacoast Pastel Painters Award (2015), the People’s Choice Award (2014), the Mary Costigan Award for Excellence in Still Life (2014), the Dick Blick Award from the 4 th Annual Northeast Pastel Exhibition (2008), the Artist Clean Air Award from the Pastel Society of America (2008), Best in Show from the National Northeast Pastel Exhibition (2006), the Pastel Journal Award from Maine’s 7 th Annual International Juried Exhibit (2006), among many others.
